Long and narrow, threaded with lakes and rivers, Leitrim, Liatroim, was the lordship of the O’Rourke chiefs of West Breifne. It touches the sea for only a few miles, but its quiet drumlin country is scattered with megalithic tombs, ringforts and the romantic ruins of lakeside castles.
