Spread across the fertile Golden Vale, Tipperary, Tiobraid Árann, is crowned by the Rock of Cashel, the ancient seat of the kings of Munster. Here St Patrick is said to have baptised a king, and Brian Boru was inaugurated as high king; the rock’s cathedral, round tower and chapel make it one of Ireland’s most striking historic sites.
