They show up not as earthworks but as faint discolourations in growing crops, the buried ditches below causing the plants above to ripen or wilt at a slightly different rate from the soil around them. These are ring-ditches, circular enclosures roughly ten metres across, defined by a fosse, and they are entirely invisible from the ground.

The site is not a single anomaly but a cluster of five such features, identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère from satellite imagery. The group spans a considerable area: the two outermost ring-ditches are approximately 280 metres apart, while two of the closest sit only about 25 metres from each other, with the fifth positioned roughly at the centre of the whole arrangement. Ring-ditches of this kind are generally understood to be the eroded or buried remains of prehistoric funerary or ceremonial monuments, possibly the traces of round barrows whose mounds have long since been levelled by centuries of agricultural use. The circular ditch, originally dug around a mound or a flat ritual space, is often all that survives, preserving the plan of the original structure even when everything above ground has disappeared. The fact that five appear together here, distributed across a field in what seems to be a deliberate spatial grouping, suggests this part of Kilmagar may once have held real significance to the communities who used it, though what precise form that significance took remains, for now, a matter of inference rather than excavation.
