The earthwork inside it, however, has not lost anything like so much. A univallate rath, meaning a ringfort enclosed by a single bank and ditch rather than multiple concentric rings, sits here with its geometry largely intact, its eastern entrance gap still open and its enclosing bank still rising to over two metres above the surrounding ground on the outside.

The rath measures roughly 25 metres north to south and 24 metres east to west internally, making it a fairly typical example of the form, which was used across Ireland from the early medieval period as an enclosed farmstead or defended settlement. What gives this particular example a degree of interest beyond its own earthworks is its immediate context. Directly to the west lies a stone alignment, a row of standing stones whose arrangement suggests a much older landscape, possibly prehistoric, predating the rath by centuries or even millennia. Whether their proximity is coincidental or reflects some continuity of significance in this patch of ground is not recorded. The rath's bank, which varies between three and six metres wide at the base, retains slight traces of a fosse, the external ditch that would originally have reinforced the bank's defensive effect. The southern section of fosse survives for about twelve metres at roughly 1.5 metres wide, while a shorter stretch to the northwest runs for five metres and is closer to two metres across. A six-metre gap in the eastern bank marks the original entrance to the interior, wide enough to suggest a proper trackway rather than a simple pedestrian gap.
