Burial Sites
Beneath the fairways of Killarney golf course lies a cist, a type of small stone-lined burial chamber typically used in prehistoric Ireland to inter the dead, often accompanied by pottery or personal ornaments.
Nothing marks the spot. No plaque, no barrier, no sign. The archaeology is simply gone, absorbed into the landscaping when the course was built in 1969, and what was once a funerary monument of some antiquity now exists only as a record.
