Enclosures
On a south-facing slope at the head of the Owenreagh valley in Bealdarrig, County Kerry, there sits a small, roughly built circular foundation that is easy to overlook and hard to date.
Measuring approximately five metres by four and a half metres across, it is modest even by the standards of early Irish enclosures, the term used for a broad range of stone or earthen boundaries that once defined dwelling spaces, animal pens, or ritual areas across the Irish landscape. What makes it quietly compelling is precisely its plainness: no elaborate construction, no commanding hilltop position, just a low ring of stone on mountain terrain, facing the light.
