Enclosures
In a field in Erneen, in the south-west corner of County Kerry, a rough square of stones marks out a space barely four metres across.
It is not a grand fortification or a ceremonial monument in any obvious sense. It is simply an enclosure, defined on its southern and part of its western side by a low, partially collapsed stone wall, on its northern side by two boulders, at the north end of the west side by a single boulder, and at the east by one large stone. The whole thing stands no more than sixty centimetres high and half a metre thick where the wall survives. Whatever purpose it once served has not been recorded.
