At Castlesize in County Kildare, a burial monument of prehistoric origin lies entirely invisible at ground level, revealing itself only from the air, and only under the right conditions. No mound rises from the field, no stone marks the spot; the site makes itself known solely as a cropmark, a faint circular shadow pressed into the summer grass by the buried remains of a surrounding ditch.

Cropmarks form when buried features, such as the filled-in ditch of a ditch barrow, affect the moisture available to crops or grass growing above them. Ditches, once silted up, tend to retain more water than the surrounding subsoil, encouraging slightly lusher, greener growth that becomes visible from altitude, particularly in dry summers when the contrast sharpens. In this case, the circular enclosure, roughly nine metres in diameter, showed up clearly on Google Earth imagery captured on 28 June 2018. A ditch barrow is a funerary monument in which a low central mound was originally enclosed by a circular ditch, a form common across Ireland during the Bronze Age, though the mound itself frequently erodes away entirely over millennia, leaving only the ditch's ghost in the soil. The Castlesize example falls at the smaller end of the scale; at nine metres across, it is a modest feature by any measure, the kind easily overlooked even in aerial surveys unless conditions conspire in its favour.

There is no meaningful visitor experience to be had here in the conventional sense. The monument is, for all practical purposes, invisible from the ground, and its significance lies entirely in what remote sensing and attentive scrutiny of aerial imagery can draw out of an otherwise ordinary-looking field.
