The enclosure measures approximately 39 metres north to south and 44.5 metres east to west, enclosed by the remnants of a stone wall that now stands only around 0.3 metres high and 1.4 metres wide. On the eastern side, a causeway entrance roughly 2.2 metres wide marks the original point of access. A cashel, to use the Irish term, is a stone-walled ringfort, a type of enclosed settlement common across early medieval Ireland, typically associated with a single farming family or small household. Within this one, a circular hut site survives with an internal height of 1.8 metres and a diameter of 4.2 metres, just large enough for a small domestic space. On the western side lies a souterrain, an underground stone-lined passage or chamber that would have served for storage or as a place of refuge. A rectangular earthen structure, 14.5 metres long and 3.8 metres wide, adjoins the outer face at the south-east and has been identified as a possible additional hut site. The site lies 400 metres south of a neighbouring cashel, suggesting a cluster of related settlement activity in this part of the Ballinrobe district. The description comes from D.
