Enclosures
In the townland of Moymore in County Clare, there survives an ancient enclosure whose details remain, for now, largely unrecorded in any publicly accessible form.
Enclosures of this kind are among the most common yet most quietly mysterious features of the Irish rural landscape. The term covers a broad range of structures, from the circular ringforts built by early medieval farming families as defended homesteads, to earlier prehistoric boundaries whose original purposes are still debated. That so many of them persist at all, as earthen banks and ditches softened by centuries of grass, is itself remarkable.
