No earthwork, no raised ground, no dip in the grass. The only reason anyone knows they are there is a single aerial photograph, which caught the faint crop or soil marks that betray buried circular features to a camera that a ground-level observer would never see.

Ring-ditches are the ploughed-out or otherwise flattened remnants of prehistoric circular monuments, often the eroded traces of round barrows or burial enclosures. When the soil inside a filled ditch retains moisture differently from the surrounding ground, growing crops respond by changing colour or height, and these patterns become legible from the air even when centuries of farming have long since levelled any upstanding remains. In Breansha, the aerial photograph that identified the site, catalogued as OS 2399/8, shows not one but two such features sitting on a level shelf of ground within a slope that otherwise falls away to the south-west. A field boundary that once ran to the west of the site, also visible in that photograph, has since been removed, meaning the landscape around the ditches has continued to change even as the buried features themselves remain undisturbed below the improved pasture.
