The ground here is old flood plain, and the landscape is open and agricultural, which makes the presence of a carefully engineered circular earthwork all the more quietly arresting. The main feature measures 32 metres in diameter, defined by a scarp, a well-preserved fosse, and an outer bank running from the south-west to the north-east. A fosse, in this context, is simply a ditch dug as part of a monument's enclosure, and this one is 13 metres wide and a metre deep, suggesting considerable original effort. A dip on the eastern side of the scarp may mark an original entrance, roughly 8 metres across.

What makes the site particularly interesting is that it does not stand alone. Inside the enclosure, a ring-barrow, a low circular mound surrounded by a ditch and typically associated with Bronze Age burial, sits against the northern edge of the scarp. Further ring-barrows and possible embanked barrows cluster within about 130 metres in several directions, suggesting this corner of Friarsfield was once a concentrated place of burial or ceremony. The field itself carries an older name: the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map of 1840 records it as Knockannahoirky Field, a name that preserves something of the landscape's older identity even as the earthworks beneath the grass have become harder to read. Livestock have worn away parts of the scarp at the north-north-east, south, and east, and the interior is now ordinary pasture, though the structure of the monument remains legible to anyone who knows what they are looking at.
