What marks it out is its fosse, the shallow encircling ditch that defines a ditch barrow, a type of prehistoric burial monument in which a low mound or enclosed area is ringed by a cut ditch rather than an earthen bank. Here, that fosse is only about five centimetres deep and two metres wide, barely registering against the gentle south-south-eastward tilt of the hillslope. The whole enclosed area measures roughly six metres north to south and just over five metres east to west.

The monument was identified during a field survey carried out by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly on 28 November 2008. One detail that makes it particularly interesting is that it does not stand alone. Its fosse is shared with an adjoining ditch barrow immediately to the south-south-west, the two monuments effectively conjoined along that boundary. Where the ground has been cut slightly into the hillslope to the north-east, the ditch is more clearly defined, offering the sharpest reading of the monument's original form. The interior is notably flatter than that of its neighbour, though it still tilts gently downslope in keeping with the surrounding terrain. Paired or clustered barrows are known elsewhere in Ireland, and their proximity often suggests that whatever ritual or commemorative purpose they served, it was one shared across generations or community groups rather than reserved for a single individual.
