The monument marks the edge of a landscape that has since been erased: the higher ground here flanked the eastern and south-eastern shores of a lake that was drained away entirely during drainage works in the 1870s and 1880s. What was once a waterside position is now just a slight rise in a quiet agricultural field, the former lake bed invisible beneath the grass below.

The barrow itself is modest in scale but precise in form. A ring barrow is a type of prehistoric burial monument, typically consisting of a low central mound or flat interior enclosed by a circular ditch and an outer earthen bank. At Mooresfort, the enclosed area measures roughly 4.6 metres north to south and 5.0 metres east to west. It is defined by a fosse, meaning a shallow surrounding ditch, with a basal width of just over a metre and an overall width of nearly three metres, and an outer bank that is most clearly visible along the south-west to north-east arc. The interior sits at a generally level elevation, sloping gently downward toward the fosse around its perimeter. The whole thing is small, carefully made, and remarkably intact for something that has spent millennia in working farmland. Two related monuments, a ditch barrow and another ring barrow, lie within roughly 56 metres to the south-south-west and south-west, suggesting this corner of Mooresfort was once a significant place in the prehistoric landscape, before the lake, and long before the drainage gangs arrived.
