Enclosure, Knappagh More, Co. Sligo

In the townland of Knappagh More in County Sligo, there sits an enclosure that has been formally recorded as an archaeological monument yet remains, for now, almost entirely undocumented in any publicly accessible form.

An enclosure, in the archaeological sense, is simply a defined area bounded by a bank, ditch, wall, or some combination of these, and such features turn up across Ireland in contexts ranging from the early medieval period to the post-medieval. They served as farmsteads, ritual spaces, livestock enclosures, or the footprints of long-vanished settlements. Which of these describes the feature at Knappagh More is, at present, a question without a published answer.
