Not ruined, not overgrown, but simply gone, levelled at some point before 1970, when a site visit recorded no surface remains whatsoever. Ringforts, the circular enclosed farmsteads that were the dominant settlement form in early medieval Ireland, typically survive as low earthen banks enclosing a central living area. Thousands remain visible across the countryside. This one does not.

What we know of it comes largely from the ordnance maps that captured it before its disappearance. The 1837 edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map shows an oval enclosure of roughly 40 metres north to south and 42 metres east to west, annotated simply as "Fort" on the accompanying Fair Plan map. By the time the revised 25-inch edition was produced in 1913, the feature was already being described as an irregular-shaped earthwork, suggesting some deterioration or disturbance had occurred in the intervening decades. By 1970 it was gone entirely from the ground surface, and aerial photography has since confirmed there is nothing left to see.

The site sat in a position that would have made practical sense to whoever first enclosed it. The rise offered extensive views to the east and west, a consideration that mattered for early farming communities keeping watch over livestock and land, even if higher ground to the north and west meant it was not entirely commanding. That context survives. The landscape itself has not changed dramatically. Only the fort, once a legible mark on the Irish countryside for well over a millennium, has been absorbed back into the pasture without leaving a trace.
