It does not appear on any historical map, ordnance survey sheet, or heritage inventory. For an earthwork to have escaped cartographic notice entirely is unusual; these features were generally picked up during the systematic surveys of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, even when their original purpose was uncertain. This one slipped through.

It came to light only in 2018, when Susan Curran identified it from a LiDAR image. LiDAR, a remote-sensing technique that uses laser pulses to build up precise elevation models of the landscape, can reveal subtle rises and depressions in the ground that are invisible to the naked eye and easy to miss even in aerial photography. Jean Charles Caillère subsequently noted the same feature on Google Earth imagery captured in February 2019. What the images show is a small, circular raised earthwork with a top diameter of roughly 23 metres, positioned on a low hillock. The demesne house itself lies approximately 300 metres to the west-northwest. Whether the earthwork predates the demesne or was in some way shaped or modified during the estate period remains an open question; without excavation or further survey, its age and function are simply not known.
