McMullen literacy in 1911
Of the McMullens whose literacy was recorded, 77.6% could both read and write, 3.3% could read but not write, and 19.2% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (48), James, William, Thomas and Robert. For women it was Mary (51), followed by Catherine, Sarah, Jane and Elizabeth.

The most common entry on a McMullen's census form was "Scholar"; 15.9% (144) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.6%), textile worker (5.9%), farm labourer (3.7%) and general labourer (3.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.5% of all McMullens, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is McMullen?
The largest religious group among McMullens was Roman Catholic, at 46.1%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (25.9%), Presbyterian (21.7%), Methodist (5.8%) and Baptist (0.1%).
