Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Most Goodwins, 67.3%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (24.7%), Presbyterian (4.1%), Methodist (1.5%) and Baptist (1.2%).
