Of the McGrorys whose literacy was recorded, 68.2% could both read and write, 6.6% could read but not write, and 25.2% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 69.4% reading and writing against 67.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (35), John, James, Michael and Edward. For women it was Mary (35), followed by Bridget, Sarah, Anne and Ellen.

The most common entry on a McGrory's census form was "Scholar"; 20.3% (100) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.7%), farm labourer (5.3%), general labourer (3.4%) and domestic servant (2.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 24.1% of all McGrorys, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and general labourers.
What religion is McGrory?
McGrorys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 93.9% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (4.1%), Presbyterian (1.2%) and Salvation Army (0.8%).
