The 1911 Census recorded 473 people named Dunlea in Ireland; roughly one in every 9,300 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 227 men and 245 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The Dunleas were heavily concentrated in Cork, home to 73.6% of them (348 people). Next came Tipperary (58), Kerry (17), Waterford (17) and Meath (9).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Dunleas whose literacy was recorded, 79.4% could both read and write, 3.9% could read but not write, and 16.7% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 80.8% reading and writing against 78.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.6%), farm labourer (4.4%), general labourer (3.4%) and domestic servant (2.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.1% of all Dunleas, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
