Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.2% of all Hetheringtons, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and building & construction.

The largest religious group among Hetheringtons was Anglican, at 35.1%. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (32%), Methodist (19.8%), Presbyterian (11.6%) and Plymouth Brethren (0.5%).
