That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Kellett literacy in 1911
Of the Kelletts whose literacy was recorded, 80.8% could both read and write, 5.2% could read but not write, and 13.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 84.6% reading and writing against 77.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (20), John, Thomas, Joseph and Patrick. For women it was Mary (16), followed by Margaret, Bridget, Elizabeth and Rose.

The most common entry on a Kellett's census form was "Scholar"; 26.7% (79) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.5%), farm labourer (6.1%), other maker / factory worker (5.7%) and general labourer (2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.6% of all Kelletts, followed by manufacturing & trades, textiles & clothing and domestic service.
What religion is Kellett?
Most Kelletts, 60.5%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (28.4%), Presbyterian (5.1%), Methodist (2.4%) and Baptist (0.3%).
