The 1911 Census recorded 296 people named Warwick in Ireland; roughly one in every 15,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more men than women recorded: 164 men to 132 women.

The Warwicks were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 81.4% of them (241 people). Next came Derry (16), Down (13), Dublin (8) and Tyrone (8).

The average Warwick in 1911 was 27.2 years old, 25.3 for men and 29.6 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Warwick literacy in 1911
Of the Warwicks whose literacy was recorded, 87.3% could both read and write, 1.1% could read but not write, and 11.6% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 89.8% reading and writing against 85.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (18), William, John, Samuel and David. For women it was Mary (11), followed by Sarah, Jane, Agnes and Annie.

The most common entry on a Warwick's census form was "Scholar"; 20.3% (60) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (17.9%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (5.1%), textile worker (3%) and carpenter / joiner (2.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.6% of all Warwicks, followed by retail & commerce, textiles & clothing and building & construction.
What religion is Warwick?
Warwicks were predominantly Presbyterian (84.8%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (9.5%), Congregationalist (1.4%), Roman Catholic (1%) and Seventh Day Adventist (1%).
