Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a McCarter's census form was "Scholar"; 22.4% (53) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (7.2%), general labourer (3.8%), clerk / office worker (3.4%) and blacksmith / smith (2.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 9.7% of all McCarters, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and clerical & administration.
What religion is McCarter?
The largest religious group among McCarters was Presbyterian, at 46%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (38.8%), Roman Catholic (8.9%), Methodist (2.1%) and Salvation Army (2.1%).
