The McAnultys were heavily concentrated in Down, home to 57.6% of them (136 people). Next came Armagh (60), Tyrone (19), Antrim (14) and Derry (4).

The average McAnulty in 1911 was 29.8 years old, 30.1 for men and 29.2 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
McAnulty literacy in 1911
Of the McAnultys whose literacy was recorded, 71.1% could both read and write, 3.5% could read but not write, and 25.4% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 73.3% reading and writing against 69.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common occupation among McAnultys was farmer, 21.6% of them (51 people). Next came scholar / student (21.6%), general labourer (5.1%), textile worker (5.1%) and domestic servant (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 23.7% of all McAnultys, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and domestic service.

McAnultys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 91.9% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (4.7%) and Anglican (3.4%).
