The 1911 Census recorded 231 people named McCarrick in Ireland; roughly one in every 19,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 110 men and 121 women.

The McCarricks were heavily concentrated in Sligo, home to 78.8% of them (182 people). Next came Mayo (21), Donegal (11), Antrim (6) and Leitrim (5).

The average McCarrick in 1911 was 32.2 years old, 33.1 for men and 31.5 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. McCarrick literacy in 1911
Of the McCarricks whose literacy was recorded, 79.6% could both read and write, 3.6% could read but not write, and 16.8% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 81% reading and writing against 78.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (17), James, Thomas, Patrick and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Bridget (18), followed by Mary, Catherine, Margaret and Anne.

The most common occupation among McCarricks was farmer, 24.7% of them (57 people). Next came scholar / student (18.6%), farm labourer (3%), dressmaker / milliner (2.6%) and general labourer (2.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 27.7% of all McCarricks, followed by textiles & clothing, building & construction and domestic service.

Religion was only recorded for a minority of McCarricks. Where it was, Roman Catholic was the most common (170 people).
