Of the Tweedies whose literacy was recorded, 86.1% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 8.8% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were William (9), James, John, Robert and Joseph. For women it was Mary (8), followed by Maggie, Margaret, Minnie and Elizabeth.

The most common entry on a Tweedie's census form was "Scholar"; 21.4% (48) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (8.5%), textile worker (8%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4%) and general labourer (3.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 12.1% of all Tweedies, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and general labourers.
What religion is Tweedie?
The largest religious group among Tweedies was Anglican, at 48.7%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (46.9%), Methodist (4%) and Roman Catholic (0.4%).
