Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 9.7% of all Sandersons, followed by retail & commerce, textiles & clothing and domestic service.

The largest religious group among Sandersons was Presbyterian, at 43.2%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (28.6%), Methodist (13%), Quaker (4.3%) and Baptist (3.2%).
