The Boggans were heavily concentrated in Wexford, home to 66.9% of them (115 people). Next came Dublin (36), Meath (12), Kildare (5) and Mayo (2).

Men came out slightly ahead, 83.8% reading and writing against 78.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (15), John, Thomas, William and Michael. For women it was Mary (14), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Annie and Catherine.
Boggan occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Boggan's census form was "Scholar"; 19.2% (33) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.7%), general labourer (8.1%), farm labourer (4.1%) and porter / messenger (1.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.3% of all Boggans, followed by general labourers, transport and domestic service.
