Of the McEnerneys whose literacy was recorded, 78.9% could both read and write, 6.8% could read but not write, and 14.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 84.7% reading and writing against 72.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (17), Francis, Hugh, William and Patrick. For women it was Margaret (14), followed by Mary, Bridget, Annie and Catherine.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.6%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (5.2%), farm labourer (4.1%) and domestic servant (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 22.7% of all McEnerneys, followed by retail & commerce, textiles & clothing and domestic service.
What religion is McEnerney?
McEnerneys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 94.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (5.8%).
