That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Menarys whose literacy was recorded, 81.3% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 12.9% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (14), William, James, Thomas and Alexander. For women it was Mary (8), followed by Margaret, Sarah Jane, Anne and Elizabeth.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.3%), textile worker (11.8%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.3%) and general labourer (3.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.9% of all Menarys, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and general labourers.

The largest religious group among Menarys was Presbyterian, at 41%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (23.6%), Roman Catholic (18%), Baptist (8.7%) and Methodist (8.7%).
