That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Cree literacy in 1911
Of the Crees whose literacy was recorded, 77.8% could both read and write, 3.5% could read but not write, and 18.8% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 81.2% reading and writing against 74.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were William (10), George, Andrew, Hugh and Arthur. For women it was Jane (7), followed by Elizabeth, Lizzie, Mary and Agnes.

The most common entry on a Cree's census form was "Scholar"; 24.7% (39) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (8.2%), general labourer (3.8%), farmer (1.9%) and mason / bricklayer (1.9%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 12.7% of all Crees, followed by general labourers, agriculture and transport.

The largest religious group among Crees was Presbyterian, at 43.7%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (39.9%), Methodist (5.1%), Roman Catholic (3.8%) and Congregationalist (1.9%).
