The 1911 Census recorded 156 people named Haren in Ireland; roughly one in every 28,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 80 men and 76 women.

The Harens were heavily concentrated in Clare, home to 69.9% of them (109 people). Next came Fermanagh (41), Galway (2), Cork (1) and Dublin (1).

The average Haren in 1911 was 30.2 years old, 29.1 for men and 31.4 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Harens whose literacy was recorded, 74% could both read and write, 2.7% could read but not write, and 23.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 77.1% reading and writing against 71.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (15), James, Michael, John and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (16), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Margaret and Anne.

The most common occupation among Harens was farmer, 30.1% of them (47 people). Next came scholar / student (20.5%), farm labourer (6.4%), herd / dairy worker (1.9%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (1.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 38.5% of all Harens, followed by domestic service, retail & commerce and professional.
