Of the Edmondses whose literacy was recorded, 78.1% could both read and write, 3.3% could read but not write, and 18.5% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (7.2%), farmer (5.9%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.6%) and tailor (3.9%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 10.5% of all Edmondses, followed by general labourers, agriculture and retail & commerce.
What religion is Edmonds?
Most Edmondses, 54.9%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (29.4%), Presbyterian (7.8%), Congregationalist (4.6%) and Baptist (2%).
