Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (8.8%), general labourer (8.1%), farm labourer (6.1%) and domestic servant (4.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.2% of all McGloughlins, followed by general labourers, textiles & clothing and domestic service.
What religion is McGloughlin?
McGloughlins were predominantly Roman Catholic (84.5%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (9.5%) and Methodist (4.1%).
