Of the O'brines whose literacy was recorded, 77.9% could both read and write, 6.6% could read but not write, and 15.4% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 79.7% reading and writing against 76.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (15), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (10), followed by Catherine, Lizzie, Bridget and Mary Anne.
O'brine occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among O'brines was farmer, 12% of them (17 people). Next came scholar / student (12%), farm labourer (10.6%), domestic servant (9.2%) and general labourer (9.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 22.5% of all O'brines, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is O'brine?
O'brines were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.8%) and Presbyterian (0.7%).
