Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.7% of all Nelises, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and metal & engineering.

Most Nelises, 69.5%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (20.6%), Methodist (8.4%) and Salvation Army (1.5%).
