That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Teelings whose literacy was recorded, 76% could both read and write, 5.4% could read but not write, and 18.6% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 77.4% reading and writing against 74.6% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (8), Joseph, Thomas, Patrick and Christopher. For women it was Mary (12), followed by Margaret, Alice, Annie and Anne.

The most common entry on a Teeling's census form was "Scholar"; 22.9% (30) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (9.9%), domestic servant (4.6%), farmer (3.8%) and herd / dairy worker (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 9.9% of all Teelings, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Teeling?
Teelings were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Unitarian (1.5%).
