Of the Wallers whose literacy was recorded, 86.3% could both read and write, 3.4% could read but not write, and 10.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 92.2% reading and writing against 81.8% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were George (5), William, Hardress, Henry and James. For women it was Annie (2), followed by Ellen, Grace, Jane and Kate.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.8%), no occupation / dependent (4.9%), agent / manager (2.5%) and clergy / religious (2.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.1% of all Wallers, followed by no occupation / dependent, manufacturing & trades and retail & commerce.

Wallers were predominantly Anglican (73%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (21.3%), Plymouth Brethren (1.6%), Non-Conformist (0.8%) and Presbyterian (0.8%).
