The 1911 Census recorded 118 people named Keehan in Ireland; roughly one in every 37,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 57 men and 61 women.

The Keehans were heavily concentrated in Clare, home to 51.7% of them (61 people). Next came Galway (21), Limerick (19), Waterford (5) and Cork (4).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Keehan literacy in 1911
Of the Keehans whose literacy was recorded, 75.4% could both read and write, 1.7% could read but not write, and 22.9% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 77.2% reading and writing against 73.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (10), John, Thomas, Patrick and James; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (18), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Annie and Anne.

The most common occupation among Keehans was farmer, 27.1% of them (32 people). Next came scholar / student (20.3%), domestic servant (1.7%), general labourer (1.7%) and housekeeper (1.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 28% of all Keehans, followed by domestic service, retail & commerce and general labourers.

Keehans were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 99.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (0.8%).
