Mayo had the largest share of McHes, 19.8% (22 people). Next came Dublin (16), Tyrone (9), Galway (8) and Clare (7).

The average McH in 1911 was 41.5 years old, 40.5 for men and 44.0 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
McH literacy in 1911
Of the McHes whose literacy was recorded, 71.2% could both read and write, 3.8% could read but not write, and 25% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 71.2% reading and writing against 68.6% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were J (28), M, P, T and W. For women it was M (8), followed by C, B, A and K.
McH occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among McHes was farmer, 18% of them (20 people). Next came general labourer (17.1%), domestic servant (9.9%), farm labourer (8.1%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 26.1% of all McHes, followed by general labourers, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is McH?
McHes were predominantly Roman Catholic (82.9%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (6.3%), Presbyterian (6.3%) and Methodist (1.8%).
