The 1911 Census recorded 101 people named Megahey in Ireland; roughly one in every 43,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 52 men and 49 women.

Of the Megaheys whose literacy was recorded, 69.7% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 25.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 74% reading and writing against 65.3% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (11), George, James, Robert and Thomas. For women it was Elizabeth (4), followed by Annie, Mary, Minnie and Isabella.

The most common entry on a Megahey's census form was "Scholar"; 22.8% (23) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.9%), textile worker (6.9%), carpenter / joiner (2%) and farm labourer (2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.9% of all Megaheys, followed by textiles & clothing, building & construction and general labourers.
What religion is Megahey?
The largest religious group among Megaheys was Presbyterian, at 39.6%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (29.7%), Methodist (17.8%) and Roman Catholic (12.9%).
