The Bunyans were heavily concentrated in Kerry, home to 72.5% of them (66 people). Next came Laois (10), Dublin (9), Wicklow (3) and Tipperary (2).

The average Bunyan in 1911 was 28.6 years old, 29.1 for men and 28.0 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Bunyan literacy in 1911
Of the Bunyans whose literacy was recorded, 76.7% could both read and write, 3.3% could read but not write, and 20% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 80.9% reading and writing against 72.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (5), Maurice, James, Mathias and Matthew. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Johanna, Margaret, Catherine and Hannah.
Bunyan occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Bunyan's census form was "Scholar"; 20.9% (19) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (5.5%), general labourer (4.4%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.4%) and blacksmith / smith (3.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 7.7% of all Bunyans, followed by building & construction, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Bunyan?
Bunyans were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 92.3% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (6.6%) and Presbyterian (1.1%).
