Quish in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 82 people named Quish in Ireland; roughly one in every 54,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 45 men and 37 women.

The Quishes were heavily concentrated in Limerick, home to 78% of them (64 people). Next came Tipperary (15), Cork (1), Dublin (1) and Wicklow (1).

The average Quish in 1911 was 31.1 years old, 27.8 for men and 35.2 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Quish literacy in 1911
Of the Quishes whose literacy was recorded, 84.8% could both read and write, 3.8% could read but not write, and 11.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 94.4% reading and writing against 76.7% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Quish common first names
The most common male names were Patrick (13), Martin, John, Thomas and William. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Bridget, Ellen, Margaret and Annie; matching the national top five exactly.
Quish occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Quish's census form was "Scholar"; 28% (23) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (19.5%), general labourer (2.4%), railway / tram worker (2.4%) and carpenter / joiner (1.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.7% of all Quishes, followed by general labourers, transport and building & construction.

Quishes were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 100% of them.
