The Bullens were heavily concentrated in Cork, home to 60.3% of them (47 people). Next came Mayo (8), Kerry (7), Antrim (6) and Fermanagh (3).

The average Bullen in 1911 was 30.2 years old, 27.0 for men and 32.4 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Bullens whose literacy was recorded, 94.6% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 5.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 95.7% reading and writing against 92.9% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (3), William, Henry, John Henry and Alfred Constantine. For women it was Alice (3), followed by Mary, Annie, Bridget and Elizabeth.

The most common entry on a Bullen's census form was "Scholar"; 28.2% (22) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (9%), clerk / office worker (3.8%), no occupation / dependent (2.6%) and cook (1.3%). Grouped by sector, retail & commerce accounted for 9% of all Bullens, followed by clerical & administration, domestic service and no occupation / dependent.
What religion is Bullen?
The largest religious group among Bullens was Roman Catholic, at 38.5%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (30.8%), Methodist (15.4%), Presbyterian (10.3%) and Plymouth Brethren (1.3%).
