Women came out slightly ahead, 64.3% reading and writing against 54.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (8), James, Patrick, Edward and Michael. For women it was Mary (11), followed by Ellen, Margaret, Annie and Bridget; matching the national top five exactly.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (6.5%), farmer (6.5%), general labourer (5.2%) and seamstress (5.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13% of all McCluskys, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and general labourers.
What religion is McClusky?
McCluskys were predominantly Roman Catholic (84.4%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (14.3%) and Presbyterian (1.3%).
