Stott literacy in 1911
Of the Stotts whose literacy was recorded, 88% could both read and write, 5.3% could read but not write, and 6.7% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 89.1% reading and writing against 86.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Samuel (5), John, Robert, Thomas and William. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Sarah, Lizzie, Margaret and Jane.

The most common entry on a Stott's census form was "Scholar"; 18.4% (14) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (9.2%), other maker / factory worker (7.9%), farm labourer (6.6%) and no occupation / dependent (3.9%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 13.2% of all Stotts, followed by agriculture, manufacturing & trades and no occupation / dependent.
What religion is Stott?
Most Stotts, 51.3%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (30.3%), Methodist (9.2%), Plymouth Brethren (5.3%) and Baptist (2.6%).
