Of the Feerys whose literacy was recorded, 73.8% could both read and write, 10.8% could read but not write, and 15.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 76.5% reading and writing against 71% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a Feery's census form was "Scholar"; 26.5% (18) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (20.6%), domestic servant (7.4%), other maker / factory worker (4.4%) and farm labourer (2.9%). Grouped by sector, general labourers accounted for 20.6% of all Feerys, followed by domestic service, agriculture and manufacturing & trades.
