The Millins were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 54.4% of them (37 people). Next came Down (18), Cork (4), Dublin (4) and Tipperary (4).

The average Millin in 1911 was 28.0 years old, 27.6 for men and 28.3 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Millin literacy in 1911
Of the Millins whose literacy was recorded, 85.3% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 14.7% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 90% reading and writing against 81.6% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Millin common first names
The most common male names were Joseph (3), Robert, William, Alexander and David. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Jane, Agnes, Annie and Elizabeth.
Millin occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Millin's census form was "Scholar"; 16.2% (11) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (16.2%), general labourer (5.9%), barber / hairdresser (4.4%) and metal worker / engineer (4.4%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 17.6% of all Millins, followed by general labourers, manufacturing & trades and retail & commerce.
What religion is Millin?
Millins were predominantly Anglican (73.5%). The remainder were mostly Unitarian (11.8%), Roman Catholic (10.3%), Plymouth Brethren (2.9%) and Presbyterian (1.5%).
